Yahoo & tumblr

I just reblogged a few things about the possible yahoo! tumblr deal.  I guess I’d rather see yahoo! buy tumblr than twitter or facebook.  Yahoo! is a little more likely to leave it alone rather than killing it off slowly…I’m still waiting for the next great tweetdeck to come out.

Speaking of…if yahoo! really wanted to be relevant, they would develop a new power tweetdeck that had twitter, tumblr, facebook and maybe instagram integration…and was open to working with smaller platforms too.  That is where the money is.  People are more willing to pay for software/services now, and I think the timing is right to cash in.  We don’t want ads, we just want to do shit.

Yahoo reportedly eyeing Tumblr for possible $1 billion acquisition

my first reaction is how horrible this would be. but then i realized that i’d really like for tumblr to have a functioning search feature, and have a team of people regularly working on improvements (not additions - improvements) to the site. plus, you know this would increase the askbox situation tenfold.
so yeah, fuck it. i’m on board.

Finally! Someone who sees how much of a GOOD thing this could be for the tumblr community. Having been a user of a few different services before they were acquired by Yahoo! (GeoCities, eGropus, LAUNCH, del.icio.us), I was quite excited to see this story come across my dash yesterday. The worst thing that would happen to tumblr if acquired would be Yahoo! leaving it “as is.” C’mon David, sell off your baby to Melissa and ride off into the sunset.

Yahoo wants to buy Tumblr. Will Facebook swoop in at the last minute? — Tech News and Analysis -

tonyburgess:

Yahoo wants to buy Tumblr. We hear Facebook might spoil the party. But the question is: is Tumblr the fountain of youth that Yahoo badly needs or will this be case of a pathetic old-middle aged guy hanging with youngsters trying to be hip.

The Blog of Tony "T-Bird" Burgess: Yahoo Wants Tumblr...I Would Be Concerned -

tonyburgess:

Reports across the Web say that Yahoo wants to buy Tumblr. Friends this is a serious thing. Yahoo had a blogging platform called 360 a number of years ago but shut it down for business reasons. It bought Geocities the Web page building platform just to shut it down a few years ago.

Can someone from the sciencey side of tumblr please explain this ?

This is called shape memory. It’s made from an alloy of titanium and nickel (I believe it’s called nitinol). It has the ability to “remember” the shape it’s taken.
When cold you can bend it whatever which way, but once you heat it (or in this case put it in what I presume is hot water) it will take the original shape.

WHAT!!?!?!?!?

don’t ever tell me science isn’t  cool
